Runners. Hats, sunglasses, waterbottle next to you where it will not roll. I'll bring the body clay. Put your bag and valuables inside the truck cabin.
Date: Saturday, 27th February
Time: Meet 10am for an 11am street parade for at least an hour.
This will be the time to decorate the truck, yourself and create, make and decorate "Blaze"

Pako Festa  Parade Occupational Health and Safety.
•    Due to the size of Pakington Street and the nature of the Parade,
Tray trucks are allowed.
•    ALL entries will need to have at least one person who acts as the groups Safety Warden. Jacqui The Safety Warden will be responsible for the wellbeing of all members of the group on the day of the parade.  If anyone gets sick or has an accident on route, the Safety Warden must stay with that person and wait until a Marshall or other official arrives.  The rest of the group must keep moving along the official parade route.
•    All props and persons attached to or on a moving vehicle need to be secured effectively.
If you are standing, wear a djembe strap around your shoulders and hips, stand towards the back of the truck or in the middle.
If you are dancing, stand with your feet firmly apart in parallel, and bent knees always. Good to have one foot towards the back of the truck and one foot towards the front, transfer your weight between both feet, suspending in the knees. Never turn! The hardest balance is when the truck starts to take off. Takes about 5 minutes to adjust to the moving truck, so make sure you are on the truck and rehearsed before we turn into Pakington St. If you fall off, don't get back up on a moving truck. Dance behind the truck.

•    All vehicles need to be roadworthy and all driver’s require a current Drivers License. Greg Speare will be driving the truck. THANK YOU GREG
•    All parade participants must have the physical stamina and wellbeing to do whatever is required of them for the duration of the entire Parade Route.  Approximately 1 hour, plus assembly time approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours
•    Participants will need to provide their own refreshments at the Assembly area.
    Parade Restrictions
•    No mobile phones
•    No Smoking
•    No stopping for any reason
•    No detouring
•    No breaks from performing
•    No semitrailers
•    The MUSIC of your entry needs to be of a high quality and played back at an appropriate volume, which means that it can be easily heard but that it doesn’t drown out the entries next to you.
•    THE WALKING PACE IS SET AT A LEISURELY WALK. THERE IS TO BE NO STOPPING FOR ANY REASON.  If someone breaks down or becomes ill, they will move to the Left and the Parade will move around them on the Right
•    A DISTANCE OF 2 METRES AND NO MORE NEEDS TO BE KEPT BETWEEN EACH PARADE ENTRY.  So leaders of each parade entry will need to be mindful of this and set the pace for their group to follow.
•    All signage must be in keeping with the parade entry and the theme of your float.

Universal Grooves on the Surf Coast,  is the second in a series of performance workshops provided by community drum and dance group, Wild Moves and proudly supported by the Surf Coast Shire where the community can engage with professional performers who bring cultural diversity to the Surf Coast. Drums are provided by Wild Moves but need to be booked in advanced.

Valanga Khoza was born in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. He grew up in a traditional setting surrounded by lively singing, drumming and dancing. The Limpopo area is rich in traditional healers, orators and storytellers, highly respected throughout Africa. These were his neighbours. Their nightly ceremonies carried songs and rhythms passed down through thousands of years. Valanga carries these influences through his songs and storytelling. He is also influenced by his travels throughout the world that were driven by his struggle against racism and his fight for freedom of black people in South Africa.
13 years ago Valanga began working with singer and songwriter Andrea Khoza. She is a founding member of the highly acclaimed acappella group "AKASA" and has sung and recorded with many respected musicians over her career. Over the past 2 years she has codirected and conducted the Boite's Millenium Chorus and Schools Choruses.  Valanga and Andrea travel regularly to South Africa where they immerse themselves in the music and culture of today. Recently, they have released their first full length album together "Vuswa - the source of life"

THE INTERACTIVE CONCERT
Valanga and Andrea will take you on a journey  from rich vocal harmonies, rhythmic guitar, traditional stick drums to the lilting tones of kalimba. The songs are from their new album as well as some old favourites that range from township jive to haunting traditionally inspired melodies. All songs composed by South African born Valanga, tell stories of the past and present, a journey reminding us of our  shared humanity.
So join them! Come and sing and drum  the joyous music of South Africa with Valanga and Andrea Khoza. The songs will be both original songs by Valanga and traditional songs in 3 or 4 part harmony. Together, Valanga and Andrea work as a team, presenting the interactive performance with many stories that will give you an insight into the South Africa of yesterday and the South Africa today. They will have you singing, moving and grooving!
